My City, My Responsibilities Awareness Campaign With DBKK
Sedafiat Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK), successfully organised the KK Clean Up Program, a community environmental initiative involving cleaning and waste collection around the Karamunsing Complex. The clean-up covered various areas including parking lots, surrounding buildings, drains, and shop corridors.
This initiative was held as part of the 'My City, My Responsibility' Awareness Campaign in conjunction with World Environment Day, with DBKK as the main organiser and Sedafiat Sdn Bhd as a strategic co-organiser.
The program aimed to raise public awareness on the importance of environmental preservation and educate urban communities on their shared responsibility in maintaining cleanliness. It aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG 13: Climate Action
- SDG 15: Life on Land
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
The event began with an aerobics session, followed by the official flag-off of the KK Clean Up, officiated by Mr. Awang Roozan bin Mohd Nadzir, Head of Procurement, Vendor, Logistics, and Inventory (PVLI) of Sedafiat Sdn Bhd.
The clean-up effort saw active participation from various stakeholders, including government agencies (DBKK, Trash Hero), educational institutions (Universiti Malaysia Sabah, ATI College, UniTAR College, MAHSA College, MSU College, Almacrest College, Kolej Yayasan Sabah), and community representatives (Kg Kobuni Inanam, Kg Binaung, Kg Warisan Inanam).
Over the course of two hours, the program successfully collected 365 kilograms of waste, comprising plastic bottles, cigarette butts, paper, and other refuse, which were then segregated into recyclable and non-recyclable categories.
In addition to the clean-up, Sedafiat was invited to conduct a Pocket Talk session, delivered by Pn. Rafeah Buang, Head of Healthcare Waste Management Services (HWMS), focusing on Clinical Waste Management in Sabah, particularly in public hospitals.
Sedafiat also participated in the exhibition booth, alongside other key stakeholders such as the Environmental Protection Department (JPAS), Department of Environment (JAS), Sabah Parks, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), Soka Gakkai, Green Buddy, HWKKS, and other related agencies.
The campaign’s highlight was the official launch of the Polystyrene and Plastic Straw Reduction Campaign, officiated by Mr. Robert Lipon, Deputy Director General of DBKK’s Operations Sector. The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Executive Officer of Sedafiat Sdn Bhd, Datuk Haji Awang Buhtaman Hj Ag Mahmun, marking the successful conclusion of the awareness campaign.
