As part of Sedafiat Sdn Bhd’s mission to deliver high-quality services to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), the company has strategically embraced technology and innovation as key enablers in achieving operational excellence. In line with this commitment, Sedafiat introduced the Program Inovasi dan Kreativiti Sedafiat (PIKS) as an internal initiative aimed at optimising technological applications and fostering innovation throughout its service delivery operations.
Recognising the growing importance of a structured and future-forward innovation framework, PIKS was rebranded in 2019 to the Sedafiat Technology, Innovation and Creativity (STIC) program. The rebranding was inspired by the vision of the Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Hj Ag Buhtamam Hj Ag Mahmun, and was intended to realign the program with the increasing emphasis on new technologies in healthcare support services. The official launch of STIC took place during the Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) Meeting in 2020 at The Magellan Sutera Harbour, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, officiated by the Director-General of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The STIC program is built on five key pillars designed to foster innovation and drive continuous improvement:
- Cultivate a culture of innovation and creativity among employees.
- Equip staff with systematic and effective problem-solving techniques.
- Generate organisational excellence through creative value-driven initiatives.
- Promote healthy competition that leads to significant workplace impact.
- Foster teamwork and collaboration across all levels of the organisation.
STIC continues to evolve through both internal initiatives and external collaborations. Internally, the annual Sedafiat Excellent Team (SET) convention is the flagship platform under STIC, encouraging staff from hospitals and headquarters to showcase creative ideas translated into high-impact projects. Since its inception, SET has seen consistent growth, averaging 27 innovative projects per year as of 2022.
Externally, STIC actively participates in national and international innovation platforms hosted by agencies such as the Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC), Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), and QKM Consult, among others. Selected SET teams or those recommended by company leadership represent Sedafiat in these engagements.
In 2020, two STIC teams from Hospital Queen Elizabeth (HQE) and Hospital Kota Kinabatangan (KKT) participated in the Mini Innovation Showcase Team Excellence (MTEx) 2020 virtually, each receiving the prestigious Gold Award.
The following year, a team from Hospital Keningau went on to represent Sedafiat at the Regional Innovation Showcase on Team Excellence (RISTEx) 2021 and the Annual Productivity and Innovation Showcase (ArISe) 2021, where they also earned a Gold Award and were crowned Best Team Excellence Group in the Services Category.
In 2022, STIC reached new heights. The STIC Professional Team participated in the MBOT Technology & Innovation Expo (MTeX’21) and was recognised as one of the Top 10 Projects in the Professional Category. Moreover, the STIC Legacy Team was invited to represent Sedafiat at the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) 2022 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Their strategic presentation earned them a Gold Award on the international stage — a historic milestone for the company and a testament to the collective effort of its workforce.
STIC remains committed to scaling its impact by forging strategic partnerships within the company to support the replication and commercialisation of successful projects. These collaborative efforts are aimed at ensuring that innovations developed by Sedafiat’s personnel continue to enhance service quality not only for the Ministry of Health Malaysia but also for the broader national healthcare landscape.
Through STIC, Sedafiat reaffirms its commitment to technological advancement, creative excellence, and organisational innovation — establishing itself as a leader in healthcare support services and a trusted partner in national development.
