Sedafiat Sdn Bhd Receives Prestigious Recognition for Green Innovation at Tawau Hospital
Sedafiat Sdn Bhd has been honoured with the prestigious "Commitment Award – Most Impactful Green Project (Concession)" for its Solar Hybrid Air Conditioning System project implemented at the Specialist Clinic Building, Tawau Hospital.
The award was presented by the Deputy Minister of Health, YB Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni, to Sedafiat’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Hj Ag Buhtamam Hj Ag Mahmun, accompanied by the Director of Tawau Hospital, Dr. Norlimah binti Arsad, during the Green Healthcare Facilities Conference 2025 Gala Night held in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, in April 2025. Also witnessing the ceremony were the then Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, and the Deputy Director-General of Health (Research and Technical Support), Datuk Dr. Nor Fariza binti Ngah.
This recognition affirms the comprehensive implementation of sustainable technology through a retrofit project that significantly enhances energy efficiency and environmental sustainability within public healthcare facilities.
The project was executed with the support and approval of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (Engineering Services Division), funded under the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11) by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) in 2019.
The system comprises two 150-ton (421kW) HAIER Magnetic Bearing Chillers, one 50-ton (175kW) Panasonic Hot Water Fired Absorption Chiller, and 140 Solar Collectors. This integrated solution is projected to improve energy efficiency by at least 40% compared to the previous system. Tawau Hospital also implemented a Chiller Plant Energy Management System to optimise the chilled water system’s performance and energy savings, thereby improving reliability and energy management across the hospital.
The two-day conference, themed "From Vision to Action: Shaping the Future of a Green Healthcare System", was attended by over 450 participants, including healthcare concession company representatives. The event reinforced the nation’s commitment to sustainability through various renewable energy initiatives. Key focus areas included energy management, sustainable waste management, indoor air quality (IAQ) enhancement, green building ratings, green technology adoption, and sustainable financing approaches towards achieving net-zero carbon healthcare facilities.
The conference also highlighted the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s strategic direction and achievements in transforming the national healthcare sector towards long-term sustainability.
