Sedafiat Contributes Research Cabin to UMS SFERA to Strengthen Forest Conservation Efforts
KOTA KINABALU, 26 June 2026 – Forest conservation efforts in Sabah continue to gain momentum with the construction of a new research cabin at the Sustainable Forest Education & Research Area (SFERA), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The facility will be developed to support academic activities and field-based training for students.
The cabin will serve a dual purpose, functioning as both the existing management centre and a practical learning space, particularly for activities related to forest conservation and sustainability.
This significant construction project is a contribution by Sedafiat Sdn. Bhd. under the company's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework.
Sedafiat Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Awang Buhtamam Awang Mahmun, expressed his hope that the facility will create a meaningful impact on students' learning experience.
"We hope this facility will not only serve as a management office but also become a practical learning centre where students can carry out hands-on activities within the SFERA area," he said during a media interview.
According to the project master plan, construction of the modern, environmentally friendly two-storey research cabin is scheduled to commence in August 2026. The project is expected to progress according to schedule and be fully completed by December 2026.
The new research facility is expected to provide a conducive environment for learning and research, enabling UMS to nurture more future forestry professionals and experts who are well-equipped to address the challenges of environmental conservation.
