SEDAFIAT SHAPING THE FUTURE OF HOSPITAL SERVICES THROUGH EMPLOYEE-DRIVEN INNOVATION
KOTA KINABALU – Established as the Sedafiat Innovation and Creativity Programme (PIKS) in 2019, Sedafiat Technology, Innovation & Creativity (STIC) has evolved into a key driver of employee-led innovation at Sedafiat Sdn. Bhd. To date, the initiative has produced 170 innovation projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of hospital support services across 26 government hospitals in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
STIC encourages employees to transform their daily operational experiences and challenges into practical solutions through the development of equipment, systems and more efficient working methods. Since 2023, the company has also introduced an innovation replication initiative to expand the implementation of proven solutions across other healthcare facilities. These include Safe Mix Support, Smart Water Level Monitoring and Alarm Trip Auto Dialer (ATRAD).
According to Sedafiat Chief Executive Officer, YBhg. Datuk Haji Ag. Buhtamam bin Ag. Mahmun, innovation must be integrated into daily operations to ensure its benefits are realised across the organisation. This approach supports time savings, more efficient resource utilisation and smoother hospital operations.
Sedafiat’s innovation capabilities have also received recognition through achievements at MTEX 2020, RISTEx and ARISE 2021, ICQCC Jakarta 2022 and ICQCC Beijing 2023.
For 2026, the theme “Smart Innovation, Smarter Operation” emphasises the exploration of Internet of Things (IoT), automation, digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance equipment monitoring, enable early problem detection and support data-driven decision-making.
This agenda continues through the Sedafiat Excellent Team (SET) 2026 Final Round and the STIC Programme Awards Ceremony 2026 (MAPS’26), held on 22 October 2026 at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu. Sedafiat Hospital Sandakan emerged as the SET 2026 champion, followed by Hospital Tenom in second place and Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital in third place.
Guided by its motto, “Innovating Future,” Sedafiat remains committed to empowering employee creativity and leveraging technology to deliver more efficient, responsive and sustainable hospital support services.
